- Move the mouse pointer over the main menu applet on the panel
- Click and release the left mouse button
- Move the mouse pointer over the "System" menu item and a sub-menu will pop up
- Select the "Background Properties" menu item
- Select the "Background" tab
- Change the values in the "Color" box to choose either flat colour or gradient, and whether the gradient is horizontal or vertical.
- Change the values in the "Wallpaper" box to select the wallpaper to use on the background, and the manner in which to show the wallpaper.
- Select the OK button to accept the new values and close the window.
