gEDA-user: font-directory error

I just compiled the geda suite from source, everything worked fine, but 
now I'm stuck with this message and can't find any info on how to solve 
this:



gEDA/gschem version 1.4.0.20080127

Failed to load default font.
Could not load question font char -- check font-directory keyword



I did set all the environment variables properly.  Anybody?  Thanks!!
