I've been using the photoetch method for a little while now, I've a
small write up with photos at http://cyclerecorder.org/blog/20070609 .

The results with FeCl3 seem very good to me, though I've never tried the
toner transfer method.  The boards I've used are pre-sensitised but I
must try using applying photoresist myself, and try a test pattern/board
to see how fine I can get the traces..
