I'm starting to use the modular OAC3 style SSR's made by a number of mfgrs. I 
bought a bunch on Ebay quite cheap. They are, of course, bigger. Abt 1.5" 
x .4" and zero voltage on and zero current off are just what you need for 
24vax relays, solenoids, etc. I'm doing exactly the same thing as you.
