gEDA-dev: mime icons etc...

Speaking of mime icons and such, is the desktop integration supposed
to work out-of-the-box?  

Because it sure doesn't on my brand new ubuntu (gnome) install.  After
install git gEDA/gaf with various --with-xdgdatadir and friend flags (the
defaults), I launch nautilus in a directory with schematics and I don't
see the pretty icons and double clicking on a schematic does nothing.

Any thoughts as to what could be wrong?
