To test the single branch you can use:
git fetch git://repo.or.cz/geda-gaf/werner.git magneticnet:test_magneticnet 

This will put my magneticnet branch into a branch named 
test_magneticnet in your local repo.

Then you can checkout the branch and rebuild it.

You've to enable the magnetic net mode in the option menu of gschem.
