I think it is not new, and ready to be completed, and not done yet.
action commands can do what you say, just not in a super condensed,
context oriented way... There is a text command with keywords you can
find in the code for every key or mouse button press.
How to do either or when you get to a decision point I'm not sure about,
but distance numbers can be entered now, (at lest in recent versions of GTK or lesstif HIDs.
