On the screen while working with PCB yes, but what I was referring
to was the end result on the PCB. More of a layer thing rather than
color thing, but why not colored layers?

The production department would like
to see resistors in one color, capacitors in an other color etc.
on the assembly drawings. Red =Rx, Green=Cx etc.

Some agencies want things as vague as possible, such as
"R1" in both the schematic, and printed on the PCB.
They want that R1 = 1k *only* in the BOM, so they don't
have to be bothered checking for discrepancies between
the documents, say schematic says "1k" but
the BOM says "1.1k 1%", that would be bad and cost me time
and money.

Other agencies want to see everything (where do you fit it?)
on the PCB because they don't want to be bothered
looking for discrepancies in multiple documents.

Being able to do such things in a single PCB project,
and being able to select between sets of layers depending
on where the output is headed, would be useful for covering
different markets.
