gEDA-dev: Tighter integration of gEDA and PCB?

Hello, I have used gEDA and PCB for many years now,
 and I have a suggestion.

Can we make gEDA automatically look up footprints from PCB,
 given a part number on a gschem schematic, and present the
 user with an appropriate list of available PCB footprints in the 
 attributes editor?

It is difficult to even obtain a handy list of PCB footprints to have
 while you are entering schematics, usually requiring wading through
 those PCB definition files. I found it quite frustrating.

A few years back I modified a copy of gEDA, and had some success
 changing the way footprints are displayed in the attributes editor -
 the way I wanted it, but I moved on and never finished the task.

Also, what are your thoughts on eventual total integration of gEDA 
 and PCB?

Forgive me if this has already been added to gEDA, or discussed.
It has been a while since I tried it.
