gEDA-dev: Release plans?

Hi all,

I was hoping to see if it would be a good time for a new release soon...

Either / both:

a) A development snapshot, as it seems that this may be the best way to
   get things tested.

b) A new stable release, as (for purely selfish reasons), we need /
want to package something to use at CUED next academic year, and the
sooner I have something to start testing the better.

For b), (or CUED at least), I would like to see the non-modal attribute
editor and the new symbol library / component selection code. I've been
using it myself and find it quite time-saving.

If Ales has no objection, we could use a development snapshot in-house,
but it would be best if its an official tag in the repository rather
than some random checkout I pick.

If necessary, I'd be able to back-port fixes (if any) over the year
rather than rolling out a brand new (unstable) version to fix bugs - and
could take responsibility for doing so. This is of course unless Ales
wants to maintain it as a new stable branch.

I want to check, as this may get distributed in the form of a live CD to
both students here and perhaps other Universities.

Similarly,

I'd like to ask the Dan and the PCB developers if there are any plans
for a new release of PCB soon. We'll probably end up hacking it somewhat
for local consumption though (strip out some footprints the students
won't need, change various exporter defaults and use a different colour
scheme to match other software we have.)

As an aside, I still run into the occasional segfault in PCB (which I've
never caught / reproduced), but I get the feeling that its polygon
related. Does this preclude a "stable" release since the new polygon
code? Might we have a similar arrangement as suggested above where I can
back-port any bug-fixes into a "pseudo stable" branch in the repository?

Kind regards,
