I'm not convinced we do.  From my experience of using the "In Use" view for 
the last week pretty much all the time (I'm using gschem on a contract), the 
_vast_ majority of symbols I place are ones I'm already using somewhere else 
in the schematic.  I honestly think that always going to the "In Use" page is 
the Right Thing to do.
