gEDA-dev: A git whine

I figured I'd try to grab the latest repo to play around with it.  I
am new to git, so please bear with me.

I did "git config" to set up my username and PW.  Then I tried to
check out the repo, but got this result:

   src/geda> git clone git://git.gpleda.org/home/git/gaf.git
   Initialized empty Git repository in /usr/local/src/geda/gaf/.git/
   fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly
   fetch-pack from 'git://git.gpleda.org/home/git/gaf.git' failed.

Ummmmm, any suggestions about things to look for?  I smells like some
kind of permissions thing or (ugh) blocked port.....
