It builds and runs out of the box.
I've created a SuSE rpms for 1.0 and I'll create new ones for the
upcomming release.
Currently the scilab, octave, matlab frontends are not included in the
rpms:
--------------------------------------------
The following will be built
htdocs no
libwcalc yes
cgi-wcalc yes
static cgi? no
gtk1-wcalc no
gtk2-wcalc yes
mex-wcalc no
oct-wcalc no
sci-wcalc no
stdio-wcalc yes
sourceforge no
--------------------------------------------
Should I remove the cgi support from the distribution and add octave and
scilab support instead?

I've changed that in the 1.0 rpms, too.
Regards
Werner
