They are maintained by the MOTU Science team.

The current version in Ubuntu's development version (Gutsy) is
1.0.1.20070626. As its past the upstream version freeze, this almost
certainly won't be upgraded in Gutsy.

Last time I talked to William, he did say that new versions (once into
the latest development version) could be put into a back-ports for
Gutsy, and perhaps Feisty. I expect people would have to request this
explicitly though.
