I fixed the problem I had issues with, and haven't had any others.

Basically, the context had tabs in it, but by the time it got into
my .diff file, pasted out of my email client, the tabs were gone.

Since that point, I've been saving the whole email as a text file, and
using that - two less text buffers involved, perhaps that was the issue.
