Me too.. I used this guide:

I think you want:
cvs co -r V1_X eda/geda/xgsch2pcb
Let me know (as a patch perhaps) what GTK, pygtk etc.. version you can
get away with if its lower than our configure.ac, and I'll commit that
too.
