Initial Comment:
This looks like a bug introduced after 20070216 version. When open a schematics with a big symbol (seems this way, since some other schematics without big symbols are OK), it displays in a small area and symbol selection has problems as well. The command 've' does the same thing. This also happens when edit a big symbol (.sym) file. When translate to (0,0), it shrinks. It appears only big symbols (like 100 pins) cause the problem. 
I've tested 1.2.0.20070902 and 1.4.0.
