You open a schematic containing the symbol, or the symbol directly? When
I open the symbol directly from the command line, gattrib just prints a
message box, then closes as it can't find any components. (I'm not sure
if gattrib works on symbols directly).

What version of gattrib do you have?

Also, as an aside for other developers, looking at this symbol in gschem
has highlighted a bug in the double click behaviour. Double clicking on
the "unknown" attributes doesn't have the expected behaviour, as it
first invokes the "drill down" to select first the attribute, then the
symbol's box. Further clicks do eventually bring up the attribute
editor.
