Hi,
if you just want to batch convert some images you may have a look at
the Python Imaging Library.
I used it to create thumbnails for large images and it worked well.
Have a look at http://www.pythonware.com

Sure, I can easily convert to whatever format I feel like with GIMP,
but I
want to use this for automated unit testing. My reading of the
documents and
list archives leads me to believe this isn't possible, but I'm hoping

wrong...
