My guess, is the symbols package has not been installed?
Hamish, what are the dependancies on the geda-* packages? libgeda and
symbols should probably be dependancies of all the other geda-* packages
if they aren't already. I don't know if Ubuntu uses the exact same
debs that Hamish created (?).
