Thanks, that solved my problem. I used the prebuilt files.

gschem says it can't find gedadocs.html, but I can't work out why.
configure for gschem says the documentation directory is
/usr/share/doc/geda-doc, which is correct.

There's hevea and tex4ht at least.. I don't know which is better.
