gEDA-dev: pcb: waste of screen estate

Something must have changed with the way the GTK HID renders the GUI. For 
some reason there I get a column of empty space to the right of the layer 
and mode buttons. The width of this column is more than enough to fit a 
mode button. I seem to remember, the layout was much tighter some months
ago.

Anyone else noticed this waste of screen estate?
