Please don't. There is a reason why neither Gnome nor KDE use the lesstif framework of
widgets. Integration into the desktop should be a lot easier for the GTK
version. Just use the "official" hooks and hints to the window manager.
Note, that the GTK version already supports free floating menu bars
without any active support necessary in the gschem source. The same would
be true for key-accel configuration, if gschem wouldn't override the
default procedures of GTK with its own.

I'm confused. Are you talking about gschem or pcb here?

DJ noted that Lesstif has an active developer (DJ) whereas gtk+ is
more in "maintenance" and could use a gtk+ expert to push it forward.

True. The GTK version definitely needs a dedicated maintainer. I believe
that it doesn't even need to be an "expert". Gschem just needs to follow
the standards for any gnome aware application.

On my list for a long time now, but not done yet, is to make the menus configurable again in the gtk version. It probably won't actually be that hard and should simplify a big chunk of code. If someone felt like tackling that, it would be a good beginner project because you don't have to understand lots and lots of code to do it.
