gEDA-dev: on the use of cairo and gtk>2.6
I know there has been some discussion about cairo. For the record I am
strongly opposed to doing anything that would require moving past
gtk-2.6 and anything which would require cairo. Currently cairo-using
apps are not able to run if your display is 8-bit psuedo-color. This
means if I compile against gtk-2.8 I can't use my ultra/10 as a
terminal. Unfortunately the cairo developers feel that support for such
displays is not important. To emphasize the problem, it doesn't matter
what system the program is running on, it is the display which causes
failures.
How strongly do I feel about it? Well, since my only X display at home
is 8-bit psuedo color, any move which requires cairo before their
problems are fixed will stop any of my development work...
