Re: gEDA-dev: Gschem and Cairo graphics library

And no offense, especially not towards John, I really picked this
mail randomly (there were at least 4 other mails telling the same idea in
this thread). Also I do not care what happens to my chroot stuff, so
don't think I'm sad because I've spent time on it then the target
audience haven't checked it.
My recollection is that you only specifically asked me to test it.
Perhaps I could just point out that I'm not actually your "target
audience", and I'm not a "passive user"; this is the geda-dev mailing
list, not the geda-user mailing list (and, as I previously pointed out,
I'm only here for Icarus anyway). I'm sure anyone reading this list is
quite capable of building gEDA from source on most systems.
I think the problem here is that no-one has actually defined *who* gEDA
is for. If it turns out that it's for Linux hobbyists, then I'll happily
acknowledge that my previous comments were all irrelevant. But, if it
does turn out to be for Linux hobbyists, then I'd be quite interested to
discover the answer to these questions:
1 - how many people in the world draw schematics, or run spice, or
design PCBs?
2 - of those people, how many of them do it at home as a hobby?
3 - of those people, how many run Linux on their PC?
4 - of those people, how many run, for example, Ubuntu?
5 - of those people, how many are capable of sorting out a dependency
problem?
If the answer is more than 10, I'd be surprised. And if it is 10, I'd
guess that at least 5 of them are on this list anyway.
