I suggest you get a package from your distribution instead. It will
probably be built and linked correctly. Surprisingly that llibpng's
own instructions were wrong though. (Or perhaps their scripts are wrong,
and the distributions have fixed them up.)
I guess you built your own gcc as well, as it wouldn't normally be in
/usr/local.
