Hello
PCB 20040530
The PDF manual says in chapter 8 Library Creation page 60:
'The second argument is the reference designator on the board such as "U1"
or "U23".'
PCB offers this to be displayed in the menu under "name on PCB".
I think these two things should be named with the same name when they
are in fact the same reality. The "name on PCB" is ambiguous because
* That it's on PCB, it's obvious. In PCB you are ALWAYS designing a PCB
so that a case it would be for example on neighbour's living room wall can't
happen
* "name" remains. It isn't clear of what it is a name. It is a name of
a part, but it could also be a name of the part's type or a name of part's
footprint.
I suggest the menu entry to be renamed from "Name on PCB" to "Reference
designator".
I think these things can easily be distressing for a novice user.
