I'm not really qualified to compare the relative merits of the wxWindows
and Qt APIs, though.

Since C++ has been brought up, I should point out that I have not heard
rave reviews about GTK-- (the C++ bindings to GTK+). GTK+ (glib, really)
seems to be an interesting attempt at adding object-orientedness to C, and
GTK-- is another layer in between all that.
<soapbox> On the other hand, I don't know if it's all that important for
tools to share a common GUI toolkit. It's a religious issue for some
