Why not change video resolution?  Usually you need to install the vmware
tools to do this beyond 800x600.  I'm sure if the vmware tools are
publicly available or if they are only part of VMWare workstation.
Ah, if you are using player images off of the net, then most likely
these do not have the vwmare tools installed.
